Hagen's are getting greener. No, not with envy, with Woolcool!
We're transitioning over to a new packaging insulation made out of sheep's wool and we think it's the bees knees.
Woolcool is a type of environmentally responsible insulated packaging for temperature sensitive goods in transit - i.e. our meat for delivery!
How did Woolcool get it's name? Simple really, the packaging is made out of wool!
Sheep’s wool is a sustainable and highly effective natural insulation material which Woolcool have used to design and develop environmentally responsible packaging products and packaging. It's perfect for our delivery products we need to keep cooler for longer.
Woolcool insulated packaging products help companies and consumers reduce, re-use and recycle packaging as set out by the Government and following guidelines by The Australian Packaging Covenant.
The wool insulation is totally compostable and biodegradable, releasing valuable nitrates back into the soil. Wool is sourced and processed specifically for making Woolcool to ensure it doesn’t contain additives, such as borate or polyester, found in other types of wool insulation.
The MDPE film used to enclose the fleece and the LDPE envelopes used for Woolcool pouches are recyclable at soft plastics recycling drop off locations.
The main reasons we love Woolcool are because it's:
Check out the science behind Woolcool here
Like many early adopters of new technologies and products, there is often a different cost structure compared with less sustainable but ultimately cheaper and more commonly manufactured and supplied products. Currently, there is less demand for products like Woolcool and therefore a greater cost to the retailer (us) and the consumer (you) who wish to shop more consciously.
In light of this, a $5.00 flat rate will be added to each Hagen's Melbourne and Mornington delivery to cover the cost of these new materials.
All orders under $100 will now also be charged $15.00 per delivery.
We're proud to shift up the way we're delivery your meat to you toward a more environmentally conscious option. It's not perfect, but we'll continue to make small incremental steps as the technology and accessibility of services become available to us.
