How to Dispose of your Ice Gel Packs

If you have room for the ice gel packs in your freezer, hold onto them as they come in very handy, particularly throughout picnic and bbq season! They last twice as long as bags of ice, they are leakproof and have minimal condensation so your picnic items won’t be spoilt or damaged.

We understand that if you're doing your online shop once a week, that you may have too many reusable gel packs for your freezer to handle.

It couldn't be easier to safely dispose of our Thermoguard gel ice packs as they don't contain any chemicals or toxic ingredients. The gel inside these ice packs have actually been used in nurseries for years to slowly release moisture into the soil.

You can be confident that the Thermoguard gel ice packs that we use will not cause damage to oceans, waterways, or the environment if disposed of correctly.

There's a few different options when it comes to disposing of these gel packs.

Drain

Cut open the ice pack and empty the gel into a bowl and add 1 tsp salt. This loosens up the gel and makes it safe to pour down the drain. Then take the rinsed liner to your closest Red Cycle drop off point with your other soft plastics.

Garden

Spread the gel around your plants to assist with soil moisture retention, then take the rinsed liner to your closest Red Cycle drop off point with your other soft plastics.

Bin

Empty the gel into your rubbish bin, then take the rinsed liner to your closest Red Cycle drop off point with your other soft plastics.
