Our boxes are lined with insulation which is made up of 100% felted sheep’s wool to create a high-performance, temperature controlled environment. Woolpack is 100% compostable and biodegradable, releasing valuable nitrates back into the soil. Using insulation which is made from a natural by-product, significantly allows us as a company and you as a customer to significantly reduce our waste.
Our new trays are made from bamboo and reduce our plastic waste by 80% using only 4g, compared to 20g for traditional trays. Bamboo requires no pesticides or fertilizers to grow, is certified compostable and uses a third less water to grow than cotton. After removing the lidding, it can be recycled at home in your domestic recycling bin or used as brown matter in your compost or worm farm.
80% of our products will be packaged in our new bamboo trays and the remaining products which require a bigger depth will be packaged in alternative trays. These trays are made from corn starch and are 100% natural and biodegradable.
The boxes that we use are made out of 100% recycled cardboard and are specifically designed for meat transportation. They can be recycled in your house-hold recycling bin.Â
Ensuring your order arrives cold is very important, which is why our durable boxes are delivered in a refrigerated van and include a chill gel pack. The chill pack outer can be recycled at your local Red Cycle program bins which are located at most Coles and Woolworths supermarkets. Or better still, put the chill pack into the freezer to use for your next picnic or BBQ! For more information about disposing of your ice packs, read our blogpost here.
The tape that we use to seal our boxes is a bio-based sticky tape that is certified to break down in a commercial compost facility within 60 days. For home composting it can take a little longer, but the Ecotape will decompose with zero toxicity and it’s made from 90% renewable resources.Â
Fragile items, including wine and eggs will be protected with an additional layer of hex wrap which is a fully compostable and recyclable paper bubble wrap.
Our meats are either cryovaced or sealed in trays. These trays prolong the shelf life of the product, particularly with meats such as chicken as most of the oxygen is withdrawn from the package, reducing the chance of bacteria growth. Our all natural sausages and burgers (that contain no additives) are also packaged on these trays to ensure they retain their shape and maintain a sufficient shelf life.
For all of our meats, we recommend opening up the meat and allowing it to breath for an hour or so before cooking. Cryovacing the products may slightly alter the smell of the meat, but once exposed to oxygen again, the smell will normalise. Â
