Why Beef Tallow Is Making A Comeback?

Why Beef Tallow Is Making A Comeback?

Beef tallow is a classic cooking fat for a reason. Long before bottles of oil filled supermarket shelves, tallow was what people cooked with every day. It delivered flavour, handled heat beautifully, and made food taste the way it was meant to taste. Crispy potatoes. Golden roasts. Proper cooking.

Over time, tallow was pushed aside in favour of cheap, heavily processed seed oils. But now, people are starting to look a little closer at what they’re cooking with, and beef tallow is making a well-earned return.

What Is Beef Tallow, Really?

Beef tallow is simply rendered beef fat, that’s it. No additives, no deodorising, no chemical processing. Just gently rendered fat that’s strained and set. When it comes from certified organic, pasture-raised cattle, like ours, it’s one of the cleanest and most honest cooking fats you can use. It stays close to its natural state, which is why it’s trusted by chefs, home cooks, and anyone who values real food.

Made for Proper Cooking

One of tallow’s biggest strengths is how well it handles heat. With a naturally high smoke point, it stays stable when cooking steaks, roasting or sautéing. It doesn’t burn easily, and it doesn’t break down the way many seed oils do. This is why potatoes cooked in tallow come out crisp and golden, roasts develop beautiful colour, and flavours stay clean and savoury.

More than just Flavour

Beef tallow isn’t just about flavour. It naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, along with beneficial fatty acids like CLA. These nutrients support overall wellbeing and are often missing from highly refined cooking oils. Tallow is also valued for skin and hair care, where it can be used as a simple, nourishing moisturiser.

A Better Use of the Whole Animal

At Hagen’s, we believe in respecting the whole animal. Using beef tallow is part of that. By rendering and using the fat, we reduce waste and make better use of ethically raised livestock. When that beef is certified organic, grass-fed and free-range, it supports farming practices that care for animal welfare, soil health and the environment. It’s a small choice that makes a meaningful difference.

Why ours is Particularly Good

Our beef tallow is made from Certified Organic, Grass-Fed, Free-Range beef from Clayton Organics. The cattle are raised on open pastures with no hormones, antibiotics or chemicals, just natural feed and time to grow properly.
